90% OF PEOPLE WITH PREDIABETES DON'T KNOW IT

Although 79 million people in the U.S. have prediabetes, nearly 90 percent don't know it, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). People with prediabetes have blood sugar levels that are abnormally high, but not high enough to be classified as diabetes. Prediabetes puts people at increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes; about 15 to 30 percent of people with prediabetes who don't take steps to reduce their risk will progress to type 2 diabetes in the following five years, the CDC says.
